I studied at UCSB all the way through to my Ph.D. in engineering. I also taught there and met my wife there. During that period, I started my first company, Computer Motion, which brought robotics into the field of surgery. Montecito Bank & Trust has been with us all the way. We had such a good experience with them the first time, they’ve now transitioned with us into InTouchHealth, which is aimed at managing a remote presence in hospitals and convalescent homes. Being the trail-blazer and fighting market inertia isn’t the easiest road to travel, but the bank is very much in sync with what we’re doing. They understand what’s involved in getting a start-up off the ground. Our association with the bank has always been steady and consistent. What I honestly didn’t expect were the opportunities that our personal relationships have provided. They’ve actually been the most help to us in establishing contacts and connections – a number of which have ultimately resulted in attracting investors to our company. They’ve taken a personal interest in us, and I don’t think you can get any better than that. |
