Our History In 1979, a group of successful business leaders led by Jack A. Sweeney saw a need for an independent bank that could provide high quality service to the business community. During this period of time several business-oriented banks had merged or grown so large that they no longer effectively served the market. On July 4, 1979 Great American Bank was chartered by the State of California, and later that year opened its head office with Mr. Sweeney as its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer accompanied by a corps of seasoned banking professionals. During those fast paced early years of the bank's existence, a decision was made to invest in technology and quality personnel versus costly brick and mortar banking offices, and the bank developed an extensive ability to provide strong relationship banking no matter the location with services customized for each client. In 1987 the bank changed its name to First Regional Bank. The new name reflected the Bank's regional approach encompassing all of Southern California as its potential marketplace. The Bank continued its emphasis on business banking, including commercial business; real estate mini-perm, construction, bridge loans, and operational service of the highest quality. The Bank's foresight during this period enabled First Regional Bank to weather the economic slow down that impacted almost all Southern California businesses in the early 1990's. This approach solidified the Bank's position in the industry where many competitors have been less successful, acquired, or disappeared. First Regional Bank is constantly looking forward, planning its growth not just for the next quarter, but years into the future while maintaining a tradition of excellent service and personalized attention to all our customers.
