Rolled out a New Product Line that enhances revenue opportunities through simpler and more competitive product offerings.
Introduced our Customer Acquisition Program (CAP), increasing our checking account opening eight fold.
Continued our Branch merchandising program that invests over $1.5 MM over 18 months to give our branches a fresh and consistent look.

BPNA continues to execute with precision in its “New Day” – the strategic theme created in 2002 covering a series of initiatives designed to improve financial performance through 2005. Net income increased by 39% in 2004 and reached a record $56 million. After spending the first two years of a “New Day” looking inward, reorganizing, converting systems and preparing its platform for growth, BPNA began in 2004 to execute the phase of profitable organic (internal) and external revenue growth.
In 2004, BPNA announced the closing of two acquisitions, the first since 1999. On September 1, 2004, the purchase of Quaker City Bancorp in Whittier, California, became effective. QCB added 27 branches, $1.9 billion in assets and $7.4 million in net income. The merger with Kislak National Bank, a $900 million bank with 8 branches in the Miami area, became effective on January 5, 2005.
Organic growth (excluding acquisitions) in 2004 was outstanding. Loans grew by 15%; deposits increased by 19% and fee income jumped by 18%. Expenses, the focus of our efficiency efforts in the last three years, grew only by 2%. Our Middle Market lending initiative, launched in 2003, resulted in strong loan growth, and our SBA efforts continue to position BPNA and Popular among the top lenders in the country.
