Alaska Pacific Bank started in 1935 as Alaska Federal Savings and Loan Association, operating inside the offices of Columbia Lumber Company in Juneau, Alaska. The first office of the institution was located at 117 Seward Street, but after years of growth, the Association moved into its new headquarters on Franklin Street in 1961. Alaska Pacific Bank's current headquarters are still in Alaska’s capital city, located in the Nugget Mall Office. Over the years the company grew, adding offices around Southeast and Southcentral Alaska. In response to the oil-driven recession of the mid-80's, the bank closed its offices in the Southcentral region of the state. The bank continued to expand its operations throughout Southeast Alaska, also changing its name to Alaska Federal Savings Bank in 1994. The bank continues to demonstrate its commitment to the residents of Southeast Alaska with offices located throughout the region. On July 1, 1999, Alaska Federal Savings Bank converted from a mutually owned savings bank to a stock-owned savings bank, providing its customers and members of the general public with the opportunity to purchase stock and invest in the future of the Bank. As part of the stock conversion, the name was changed to Alaska Pacific Bank, reflecting the bank's full range of consumer and commercial services.
